4. The $900 billion defense-policy measure signed into law earlier this month includes special benefits for Alaska-based soldiers and Coast Guard members.

5. President Trump signed a bill into law on Friday that will give Alaska Native veterans more time to file for their Native allotments.

6. Nine seismic-monitoring stations in the Aleutian Islands lost federal funding this year and were set to shut down. But last-minute negotiations could keep them operating.
